The Meridian Optimist Club and  the Meridian Firefighters Association are holding a raffle for a 2012 Polaris Sportsman 500 ATV.

4th Annual Luck o' the Irish Casino Night
The Meridian Firefighters and the Meridian Optimist Club are sponsoring their 4th annual Casino Night Fundraiser at Red Line Recreational Toys, 535 N. Locust Grove in Meridian on Saturday, February 25th from 6:00 p.m. to midnight.
This promises to once again be a great time with lots of great prizes to be raffled  along with some exciting casino style action.
Proceeds go to the Meridian Food Bank, Meridian Firefighters Association, Meridian Optimist Club Youth programs and the Meridian Optimist Youth Training Center.

Optimist International Oratorical Contest

Topic: “How my Optimism Helps me Overcome Obstacles”

When: Club Contest: Wednesday April 18, 2012, 6:30 PM

Please arrive 15 minutes early to sign in.

Where: Sanitary Services Conference Room, 2130 W Franklin, Meridian, ID

Who: Students under the age of 18 years as of December 31 of the 2011-2012 school year and who are educated in the United States, Canada or the Caribbean. This is a combined gender contest where boys and girls compete against each other. There is no minimum age.

How to Enter: Fill out the entry form available at: Entry Form and send to: Meridian Optimist Club, PO Box 681, Meridian, ID 83680.

Please bring a copy of your speech, your entry form, and a copy of your birth certificate to the contest with you.

The Optimist Oratorical Contest gives youngsters a chance to speak to the world. More that $150,000 in college scholarships are awarded annually from this program.

First conducted in 1928, this is the second most popular Optimist International Program. Nearly 2,000 clubs participate in this program each year. The winners at the Club level receive medallions and First, Second, and Third place Savings Bonds of $200, $150, and $100 respectively and Zone/Regional winners receive a plaque. The Pacific Northwest District and Optimist International provides a first place scholarship of $2,500, a second place scholarship of $1,500, and a third place scholarship of $1000.

The time and location of the Zone/Regional Contest will be announced at the Club Contest.

The District Contest will be held in Newport, Oregon on May 19. 2012.
